How much does it "really" cost me? |
Unfortunately beach rentals in Galveston fall under the Hotel and Hospitality classification. There is a %15 tax on top of the rental. In addition to that charge is a cleaning fee of $100 a reservation fee for $35 to the management company that handles all the rental items, questions, problems, etc a non-refundable security insurance fee of $69.00 that covers up to $3000 of damage, and linen charges based on the number of renters. PLEASE NOTE: The Gary Greene Rental site shows the rate for maximum occupancy and travel insurance requested. | How far am I from the Beach Club and Beach | We are located right next to the beach club, in fact there is no other unit that has fewer steps to the beach club entrance. We are also located just steps away from the dune walk-over entrance as well. Click here for map of Resort Construction showing unit location (2005) |
| How big is the condo? | Our condo is 1717sf, this is without the balcony. The balcony adds another 300-400sf of space. The the 3br/3bath is the largest condo at point west. The 3/2's are only 1427sf and there is no cross breeze available in those units. Our unit one side is on the beach side, the other side of the kitchen is on the bay side. You can open the windows and a breeze all the way through the unit. The 2/2's are only 1055 sf and only one small side has windows. Click here to see the layout of the Condo To give you an idea of the size - we are larger than the 3 bedroom Pointe West houses - they are around 1500-1680sf. The 4 bedroom houses are around 1800sf, so we almost the same size as a 4 bedroom house! |
| Where is the washer/dryer and how big are they? | We have a full size washer and dryer Inside the unit, closed off by closet doors in the hallway by the 2 other bedrooms away from the master and near the kitchen. | Do I have use of the Beach Club amenities such as the fitness center, teen center, restaurant, pool, spa, grills, etc? | Yes - Beach Club access is included in your rental rate. You will receive an access code from Gary Greene when you check in that will give you access to the facilities. |
| Your rates seem higher than a beach house down the road - why so much. | At a normal beach house what you get is a place to stay at the beach. The beach is across the street or so and that is great. But once you are done at the beach you return back to the beach house - which is fine. At Pointe West you get all of the beach access you get with a normal beach house PLUS, you get two pools, two hot tubs, a restaraunt, fitness center and game room for the kids. This is a Resort , not just a house. If you get tired of cooking you can order food - even at the pool you can get drinks and food and sit and relax after the beach - you do not get this at a beach house. It is up to you what you are looking for. Taking a vacation at Pointe West allows you (and mom) to relax and enjoy the beach without having to cook and plan for everyone - we think it is worth the extra costs. |
| Do I need to bring my own sheets and towels. | Yes and No. The management company has now required linens to be rented. They claim they had too many renters who did not bring enough and damaged the beds, or forgot and complained at mid-night that there were no sheets. At this time I have been unable to convince them to change this policy. I have negotiated with them a linen package breakdown vs. paying the max linen rate. So the rate will be based on how many in your party starting at 6, 7-8. 9-10 or 11. While you will get towels from the management company you might also want to bring extra beach towels for the beach and pool. Beach towels are not guaranteed to be availble at the pools so it is best to have some spares. |
| What about food/groceries? | Pointe West has the added advantage of having a restaurant on site for those times you feel like not cooking. For other grocery items there is a Wal-Mart SuperCenter on Seawall drive and 65th street right after you arrive in town which is open 24 hours a day. There are also two other smaller grocery stores closer to the condo. Sea Isle which is about 3.5 miles from Pointe West and Seven Seas which is about 7 miles from Pointe West - these close earlier but are within 5-10 minutes of the condo if you need to run out for something. |
| Are there beach chairs/umbrellas provided? | Yes - The condo has 2 folding canvess chairs and a beach umbrella in the closet outside the front door. |
